Do you do free designs? STEP ONE: VISIT THE SHOWROOM. The first step is to visit one of AB&K’s showrooms. Plan on about 60-90 minutes for your first visit. If you’ve clipped pictures out of magazines or have a wish list for your project, bring them along. We’ll be asking lots of questions and taking notes as we show you design options and available features for your project. If more than one person is going to be involved in the decision making process for your project, then it’s best both people visit the showroom together. Note: You do not have to set an appointment for your first showroom visit, unless you’d like to request a specific designer. Nearly 70% of our clients are referrals, and if you’d like to work with a specific designer, then it’s best to call and set an appointment to insure that that particular designer is available for you when you come into the showroom.

STEP TWO: SITE MEASURE. The second step of your project is to set up a site measure. The site measure typically takes 1-2 hours. The designer will visit your home (or job site) to assess the project and measure the space. A nominal fee of $100 fee covers the cost to have a professional trained, experienced designer come to your home. The cost of the site measure is credited at the end of the project from your final payment (you’ll find a coupon in the project folder provided by your designer when the site measure is set up).

STEP THREE: THE PROPOSAL. Approximately one to two weeks after the site measure, you will return to the showroom to meet with your designer to review the proposed plans, materials and estimated cost of your project. This visit will take approximately 60-90 minutes. Plans are not released without a design retainer.  Design retainers vary depending on the size and complexity of the project (most projects average between $500-$2000.) The design retainer is credited from the final payment of your project (so if you choose to do your project with AB&K, there is no charge for the design.) By this point, you’ve got a thorough understanding of our design capabilities as well as the capabilities of the entire AB&K team.  Note: Design retainers are not refundable.The plans are yours after the retainer is paid.  Keep in mind that professional designers are well worth the investment. Your space needs to be a balance of function as well as style, and only trained professionals can help you with this process. You will probably only remodel your kitchen or bath once in a lifetime, so getting it right the first time is very important. 

STEP FOUR: FINALIZING PRODUCT SELECTIONS. This process can take hours or weeks. Every client is different. We’re happy to make selections for you, or guide you and help you with your selections. Our designers are very skilled in coordinating materials and are there to assist you every step of the way to insure the finished project exceeds your expectations. 

STEP FIVE: THE CHECK MEASURE. A check measure is conducted on all larger projects. For larger scale projects, our project manager, electrician and designer meet at the project site to check all measurements and review the plans in detail. If significant plumbing changes are necessary, our plumber will also attend the check measure. If necessary, soffits are discretely opened up to insure that no surprises are in store after the project starts. During the check measure, the project manager will discuss what to expect during your project. Most check measures take 1 ½ to 2 hours. 

STEP FIVE: THE CONTRACT. Our contract (provided by the National Kitchen and Bath Association) specifies all details of your project --plans, estimated start and completion date, detailed materials list, project description, and payment terms. Wisconsin law requires that only one homeowner sign the contract. We recommend that both (if applicable) homeowners are present for this whenever possible.
