Bathroom Design Trends

Personalization still rules as the biggest design trend and can help develop your style.
A well designed bathroom is no longer just a utilitarian space. A well-lit bathroom can be a beautiful place that compliments your home, has luxury, convenience, easy- to- clean and above all a safe place to use.

	Walk-in showers with a low threshold for easy access can be created with solid surface corian or tile. Use of 12 x 24” tile with glass accent tile can fool the eye to create more space.
	Efficient flow showerheads are designed to save water and are designed to optimize your showering performance. An added handheld shower is a great added feature for a shower.
	Dual flush toilets save water and can maximize performance.
	Good task and accent lighting. Crystal and faceted glass light fixtures add extra dimension to your space.

	I like to suggest adding a dramatic detail especially in a powder room. Achieving this is simple by using a surprising or unique material feature. Flooding a wall behind a vanity or pedestal with a highly textured stone mosaic or sleek, multi-sized glass tile creates interest and texture. Then, highlight the area with effective, intimate lighting. (Kelly Fine)

Neutral Territory

The Spa Treatment is alive and well when it comes to the main baths in the home. Whether it is crisp whites or soft neutrals that envelope you in your sanctuary, use multiple textures in the color scheme to create visual interest. Function and the Future 

Designing with Accessibility in Mind. With the aging population and the current housing market in flux, we find more homeowners with the desire to stay in their homes longer. Accessible Design does not necessarily mean handicap design. Bathroom design must include aspects of function along with aesthetics. Decorative products that help provide ease and comfort are increasingly available and help us design function without that “institutional” look. Grab bars, easy height toilets and hand held showers can provide functional but decorative solutions. Walk in showers without a thresh hold, bench seating and non slip surfaces can achieve Universal Design with added elegance. Of course, the most important consideration in any design/ remodel project is a clear understanding of the customer’s needs. Consider working with a designer that is CAPS certified or has additional ADA certification if Universal Design is a consideration in your remodel project.
