	Mix textures to create interest and an element of surprise. For example, pair a rough slate backsplash with a smooth, shiny quartz countertop.
	Cut clutter and add easy access with more drawers. You can achieve this with your cabinetry or appliances. Refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, microwaves are now available in drawers.
	Good lighting is necessary to have your room look its best, function well and make you feel good.
	Have one main focal point of your design (i.e. don’t overdesign.) Your eyes should have a place to rest. Don’t feel like you have to have something going on in every inch of your design.
	Try to incorporate big deep drawers in your kitchen for pots and pans. I couldn’t live without it in my own kitchen.
	Dark and shiny is striking and has great impact, but remember it’s much harder to keep clean and maintain on a day-to-day basis.

	Have fun with your wall colors and accessories!
	Make a statement --sinks, faucets, cabinet hardware, backsplash tile, lighting, and cooking hoods can make or break the final result.
	You can teach old dogs new tricks. Keep an open mind to new and different materials that are not only beautiful but also durable and time savers in your new kitchen.
	With the technology of cell phones, laptops, and gadgets that constantly need recharging, don’t forget to create a special space in the kitchen that accommodates this without the clutter on the counter.
	Think about the future. Make sure your design is accessible and can accommodate your needs as you gracefully grow older.
